The Gilded Six-Bits

My favorite character was Missie Mae. I loved how she was portrayed in the story. At first, she really was all about Joe. When Joe talked about Otis D. Slemmons, she was not listening to Joe. She even told Joe that the gold should be his. Although after seeing him at the ice cream parlor, Missie May was tempted. Missie Mae still was a woman that owned up to her mistakes. The symbols did add to the story. It gave it way more underlying meaning. It allowed the story to fall into line more. Yes, I would have still picked up on there presence because Joe’s reaction was off to me which made me pay attention. The gilded coin was a genius symbols. It symbolized temptation, but the couple was tempted by something that was fake. Zora Neale Hurston had so many symbols in this story. It was almost too much to keep up.
